The South Side home of the City League's football teams is getting a makeover thanks to the Black & Gold.

Cupples Stadium, the South Side home of the City League’s football teams, will be getting a makeover courtesy of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Steelers have awarded a $200,000 grant to Pittsburgh Public Schools to install a new synthetic field at the 9,700-seat stadium.

The resurfaced field is expected to be ready in time for the 2010 season.

The stadium plays host to Allderdice, Brashear, Carrick, Langley, Oliver, Peabody, Perry, Schenley and Westinghouse of the City League.

The funding was made possible as part of the National Football League’s Grassroots Program.
