The Sto-Rox Vikings football team finished their 2009 regular season with a 7-2 record before falling to Beaver Falls in the quarterfinals of the WPIAL playoffs last Friday, but that may not be enough for head coach Jason Ruscitto to keep his job.

The shouting that took place at a school board meeting Thursday night rivaled that of the kind heard at a heated football game.

The war of words was sparked by an e-mail from the interim athletic director to the school board recommended opening all the football coaching positions, citing a lack of discipline on the team.

Those in attendance were critical of the way it came up.

"If you have a problem with him [Ruscitto], you should have let him know.  To hear it out in the community before he's even told that there are issues or concerns, I think is wrong.  How do you get rid of a winning coach?" said resident Adrienne Roberts.

One board member said it was never on the agenda.

"It was never discussed.  It was never our intention to discuss anything about the coaching staff at all.  This happens all the time," said Sto-Rox school board member Jean Mayes.

However, another board member said it had been part of the plan.

"I believe this was a last minute attempt from politics and it was thwarted thanks to public involvement and people demanding better of the school system.  You don't fire coaches at the 11th hour of an outgoing school board, it's just improper procedure," said school board member Ed Maritz.

The board took no action Thursday night regarding Ruscitto or his coaching staff.

Two new members will join the school board for its next meeting on Dec. 7.
