Yough vs. Jeanette

September 14, 2007

Last Firday afternoon, on ESPN NEWS, the words Yough at Jeanette came across on the ticker. It gave all-star quarterback Terelle Pryor's stats. Pryor is a 6'6, 220 pound quarterback and is eyeing up the colleges of Ohio State, West Virgina, Penn State and several others. The Cougars knew from last year that they had to stop Pryor early but they were unsuccesful at doing so. The Jayhawks (3,0) (3,0) beat the Cougars (1,2) (1,2) 53-0.

On Jeanette's second play of the game Pryor ran 66 yards into the endzone. A penalty was enforced on the extrapoint. The kick was short and the Jayhawks lead 6-0. On Yough's ensuing drive the Cougars marched down the feild. Their spectacular drive was ended when running back Bobby Bridge had the ball stripped from him on the Jeanette 5 yard line. The turnover lead to a 13 yard Jayhawk TD. Coach Reitz of Jeanette went for a 2 point conversion to make up for the missed extrapoint, but the Yough defense stopped them. The Jayhawks had the lead 12-0.

Less than a minute into the second quarter the Jayhawks struck again with a 15 yard TD run. Once again the Cougar 'D' denied Jeanette of the 2 point conversion. On the Jayhawk's following drive Pryor threw is only touchdown pass of the game to Josh Willaims, the extrapoint kick was good and the Jayhawks had a 25-0 lead over the Cougars. With just 56 seconds left in the first half, fifth ranked overall in the greater Pittburgh area, Jordan Hall ran into the endzone from 5 yards out. The kick was up and good. The Jayhawks had a 32-0 lead at the half.

The Yough band played their Rock Evolution show as the Cougars had their meeting in the locker room. A motivative speech was given by Coach Whener, along with other coaches that had the Cougars come out firing. Quarterback Pat Sior stepped it up with a big throw to Benny Hoffer, but the Cougars were forced to punt. Hall again got his hands on the ball for Jeanette and dove into the endzone. The kick was through the uprights. The Jeanette lead was now 39-0. Jeanette would score 2 more times before the end of the third quarter. The final score was 53-0.

The Cougars will have an improved opponent next week, the East Allagheny Wildcats (3,0) (3,0). Kickoff will be at 7:30 on top of Cougar Mountain.
